We swoon over celebrities and their desirable figures. There is a lot that goes behind looking that stunning at red carpet events or even otherwise. An ideal diet requires eating right, following afitness regime and a healthy diet overall, to show results. Having said this, not all diets laid out are suitable and show expected results and some may turn out to be complete disasters. We list out 5 such horrible diets that are only fads and do no good to the body.
1. Maple syrup diet or the master cleanse
Beyonce was known to take up this diet, or a fast rather, a couple of years ago to shed some weight in a few weeks, for her role in Dream girls. This diet includes sipping on a mixture of maple syrup, hot pepper and lemon juice throughout the day or having laxative tea every night and some lukewarm sea salt water every morning to cleanse the body. However, once you are off it or when you can’t keep up with it, you tend to binge or over eat because there is no balance of fibre and carbohydrates or other nutrients at all, in your daily diet. You are only starving for some time and not burning any weight.
2. Breatharian or air diet
The singing sensation Madonna has allegedly been on this diet. The concept of this diet is such that air and sunlight alone are enough to keep the body going. You don’t eat at all, but only pretend to do so. All you can consume throughout the day is water and salt soup which contains minerals.
3. Alcorexia or drunkorexia diet
This diet involves controlling the calorie intake in the food and making up for it with an alcohol binge! In other words, you create a bank of calories that you can consume, so as to drink more. This is extremely dangerous as you are depriving yourself from the needed nutritional value in protein, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients for healthy body functioning. In addition, such excessive alcohol intake only causes damage to the system. Such behavioural patterns have been observed in celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton and could be indicative of a wider trend.
4. Atkins Diet
Kim Kardashian follows the Atkins Diet. Atkins can be harmful, as it requires reducing the carbohydrate intake, which is in fact the main source of energy and focuses on vegetables, proteins and fats. Factually, it calls for 30% of fat intake which is unlike the standard requirement and can thus lead to the condition of ketosis, causing organ damage.
5. Blood type diet
This diet needs you to eat as per your blood group. This means that you may be forbidden from eating certain essential nutrients. This diet simply ignores important factors like your general health and the presence of medical conditions, deficiencies, allergies, your body type, and weight loss goal, making it far from desirable as an ideal diet. Miranda Kerr was a follower of this diet for a while, along with celebrities like Demi Moore and Elizabeth Hurley.
