Seisenbergklamm near Weißbach/Lofer is a special adventure for all ages. This natural monument, began to develop about 12,000 years ago when ice from the last Ice Age melted in the Alps.
This 50 meter deep canyon was virtually inaccessible until woodcutter’s created a pathway through the gorge back in 1831. This was done, in order to make it easier to transport logs through the gorge; however, today it exists as the only means to access the deep ravine.
The entrance to the gorge is located directly in town. It takes about one hour to tour this popular sight and is also the perfect starting point for many wonderful hikes.
The walk through the gorge is just the right length with plenty of photo opportunities. Even long before reaches the ravine, it affords any visitor some of the most beautiful scenes of rapids and waterfalls as it meanders its way through the forest.
This gorge is amazing, the force of the water rushing through the gorge is breathtaking, if you visit during the summer the Sommercard provides you with free entry into the gorge. This is one natural attraction that you must see.
A wooden walkway has been constructed through the entire gorge to allow you to physically walk through the depths above the rushing water. The walkways can be narrow in places and can get very wet so take care.
Due to the fact that the Weissbach stream can be extremely torrential during the spring season as a result of thawing snow, access to the canyon is restricted from October to May.
Nowadays it’s an impressing natural monument and a popular excursion point and starting point for many walking trails.The Ghost of the Gorge makes a walk through Seisenbergklamm to a thrilling adventure for all ages. He imparts knowledge about flora and fauna at different point throughout the walk.
